Ernie Ball / Music Man “Silhouette Baritone” – Blue Dawn with Classic Tremolo

My guitar playing is firmly seated in the music that emerged from 1964 (Beatles) until the early 90’s (up until and NOT including Nirvana, and other musical acts that contain a mandatory number like Sum 41, Blink 182 and 311 who my kids say are great while I contemplate killing myself for failing them as their father). But there was an occasional group that caught my intention with heavy guitars, funky loops and infectious grooves (like Limp Biskit and Rage Against the Machine). As I dissected their altered sound of the traditional rock, I realized they’re getting that cool sound by detuning their guitars down to D (or lower). Hey didn’t Eddie start this craze with the “D-Tuna”? …whatever… So you can imagine my excitement when I heard this Music Man Silhouette “Baritone” guitar with 2 loud humbuckers, lots of tone and heavy strings tuned down to B. “So that’s how they get that sound...if I buy it, my kids will think I’m cool” I said to myself after trying this guitar at the 1999 Winter NAMM Trade Show. Wrong, but it’s opened up a ton of new writing ideas. Rock on.
