Ernie Ball / Music Man “Luke” – Pearl Red with Floyd Rose

Here’s my very first Music Man “Luke” guitar named after my guitar hero and close friend, Steve Lukather. In 1993, I saw Toto play at a small club in Boston, promoting their “Kingdom of Desire” album. It was their first time touring the U.S. in a very long time, and it was also their first time touring with new drummer Simon Phillips (who had replaced Toto’s original drummer Jeff Porcaro due to his untimely death in August, 1992). Steve Lukather had been using Valley Arts “Strat” type custom guitars for many years. But Steve was good friends with Eddie Van Halen and I believe Eddie hooked him up with Sterling Ball (President of Ernie Ball / Music Man) to develop a guitar bearing his name and built to his specifications. That night in Boston I saw Steve use his new dark red and dark blue “Luke” guitars and they sounded great. One very cool thing about all of the Luke guitars is they’re built with amazing consistency. You can pick out any Luke hanging up in any music store and they will all play like butter. They’re not that expensive and are some of the finest playing guitars I’ve ever played – I love all my Lukes.
